Premier Thermal is a manufacturing company providing products and services primarily to the automotive, heavy truck, energy and agriculture industries.  PT’s customers include OEMs, distributors, forgers and foundries.  PT services its customers through multiple facilities located throughout the Midwestern United States operating 24 hours per day.

Nature and Scope

The Production Worker is responsible for running furnaces and shot blast equipment in the plant.  This position is the entry level position.  Will work with close supervision and specific instructions.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Operating furnaces
  • Filling out logs
  • Operating shot blasts
  • Performing Routine Equipment Care
  • Scanning work order cards
  • Read and understand the production schedule
  • Tagging tubs
  • Perform empty tub inspections
  • Identifying maintenance issues with equipment
  • Set‑up operating routine unassisted using prescribed set‑up operations following proper operation procedures.
  • Monitor SPC to obtain desired quality and notify Supervisor of any irregularities.
  • Follow machine operator procedures as written in Furnace Operator General Responsibilities.
  • Maintain and ensure quality by regular checking of each product produced.
  • Take corrective action to ensure quality when advised by Production Team Leader/Lead Worker.
  • May make adjustments on equipment as necessary.
  • Assures optimum communication to maintain consistency and proper procedures between shifts.
  • Maintain and ensure quality by regularly checking machine settings (temp., time, air, water) a minimum of two to three times per shift.
  • Learn and follow S.P.C. procedures as prescribed by Quality Assurance.
  • Work from specification sheets or instructions.
  • May instruct and train operators of lower classification on methods, safety, operating procedures and check their work.
  • Maintain set‑ups so that quality and production standards can be met or exceeded.
  • Recognizes operating irregularities and machine malfunctions and notifies Supervisor and/or makes necessary adjustments or repairs.
  • Anticipates material requirements and notifies designated persons or Supervisors or moves materials in order to minimize productions delays.
  • Starts work on time and is at designated work station at starting times and up until quitting times.
  • Works with Production Team Leader/Lead Worker to process each part from the unload station to boxing, each cycle maintaining efficient flow and quality of materials.
  • Meet or exceed production standards, continually striving to improve quality and production.
  • Cooperate to achieve and maintain housekeeping requirements of an exceptionally high standard to provide continuous favorable customer impressions.
  • Keep work area, equipment, machines, etc., clean and orderly.
  • Be familiar with the O.H.S.A. Hazard Communication Standard, the location of the Material Safety Data Sheets, read labels, and follow safe practices in using chemicals, glues, elements, etc.
  • Work safely at ALL times and comply with safety regulations regarding the use of protective equipment and devices, keeping guards in place at all times. Must follow safety policies and value safety above all; safety for co-workers and continuous improvement of safety.
  • Operate furnaces at maximum capacity at all times based on furnaces rating and instruction on AS400 or Work Order Card.
  • Maintain proper temperatures in non-critical and critical zones based on work order card.
  • To progressively train and learn on every furnace in normalize and run equipment to maximum efficiency.
  • Must ensure area is set in order to the Company’s 5S standards at all time.

Knowledge Skills / Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of mechanical practices and ideas
  • Experience/knowledge in a manufacturing setting and operating equipment is preferred
  • Basic understanding of the Heat Treat process, 5S, safety and quality policies and procedures
  • Ability to operate a computer
  • Basic understanding of how to make a minor mechanical or quality adjustment while they are operating the equipment and the ability to locate resources to help with advanced issues

Candidate Requirements

  • High School Diploma (GED)
  • Fork lift and overhead crane certifications are needed to operate the machinery required for the job
